Jorvan Vieira to coach SOCCEROOS?

Iraq coach contacted over Socceroos jobThe Australian Football Federation had not made any secret that they were still looking for an internationally successful coach to prepare the Socceroos for the coming World Cup series.Current Socceroos coach, Graham Arnold is expected to be stood down from the role following Australia's quarter-final exit at the Cup, but has been offered a three-year deal to stay with the FFA as a staff coach, where he will likely resume duties with the Olyroos.Asian Cup-winning coach Jorvan Vieira has confirmed he has been approached by Australian football officials over the Socceroos coaching job. The Brazilian spoke with representatives from both Australia and South Korea on the phone less than 24 hours after guiding Iraq to their fairytale 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the final of the Asian Cup in Jakarta on Sunday.He is reportedly set to arrive in Sydney next month for discussions with Football Federation Australia.
The foprmer coach of of South Korea Pim Verbeek is also available and with his experience as assistant coach with Gus Hiddink and Dick Advocaat in the last two world cups would be a fronntrunner for discussion with the AFF for the Socceroos job. Earlier news reports had Jorvan Viera as the likely replacement for him as the Korean team coach.

This Sunday Adelaide play the Queensland Roar at their home ground, Hindmarsh Stadium trying for a second successive appearance, winning the Cup in 2006 courtesy of a penalty shotout win over the Central coast Mariners.
The Mariners easily won over Sydney FC 3-0 in Canberra to set up a semi final clash with the Perth Glory on Saturday in Bluetongue Stadium at Gosford.
OLYMPIC qualifying gamesThe Olyroos will be playing against North Korea, Lebanon and Iraq in the Asian Football Confederation qualifying stages for the Beijing Olympics. The Under 23 national side will need to top the group ofr face another exit in Asia. Both the other age Junior development teams for the senior national Team failed in their respective World Cup qualifying campaigns in 2006.
